Sam Francis (1923-1994), a trailblazing Abstract Expressionist, gained international acclaim as one of the pioneers of post-World War II painting. His extensive body of work, featured in major museums worldwide, draws influences from New York abstract expressionism, color field painting, and Asian and European art. After graduating from Cal Berkeley, Francis earned the title of "the hottest American painter in Paris," according to Time Magazine. Renowned for his lyrical and gestural style, he captured the brilliance of color throughout his prolific career.
